Guidelines to Redeem and Activate your PathWave BenchVue Software License

Hi everyone, this article intends to provide you guidelines on PathWave BenchVue license redemption and activation.

PathWave BenchVue software gives you the capability to easily control your instruments and perform in-depth analysis on your measurements. Besides that, the PathWave BenchVue software apps supports more than 700 Keysight Instruments and are continually expanding.

PathWave BenchVue software comes with 4 types of licenses option:

• Node-locked: License can be used on one specified instrument/computer
• Transportable: License can be used on one instrument/computer at a time but may be transferred to another using Keysight Software Manager (internet connection required).
• Floating: Networked instruments/computers can access a license from a server one at a time. Multiple licenses may be purchased for concurrent usage.
  Three types of floating license are available:
  i. Single Site: 1- mile radius from the server;
  ii. Single Region : Americas (North, Central, and South America, Canada); Europe (European Continent, Middle Eastern Europe, Africa, India); Asia (North and South Asia Pacific Countries, China, Taiwan, Japan)
  iii. Worldwide (export restriction identified in End User License Agreement (EULA))
• USB portable: License can be used on one instrument/computer at a time but can be transferred to another using a certified USB dongle (available for additional purchase, Keysight part number E8900-D10).

License Redemption and Activation for PathWave BenchVue Licenses Included with the Purchase of Keysight instruments.
PathWave BenchVue software are included as complimentary for customers purchased Keysight instruments as stated in here PathWave BenchVue Licenses Included with Instruments . To activate and redeem the license, please follow the guideline here Activate Licenses Included with Instruments

License Redemption and Activation for PathWave BenchVue Licenses Purchased Individually.
Once you have purchased your software license, you will receive a Software Entitlement Certificate either paper certificate or via e-mail from Keysight.

• After you have received your entitlement certificate, note the Order Number and Certificate Number. You will need these numbers later in this procedure.
• Download & launch the software application to perform the next steps redeem and activate your license. Here is the software download link Latest PathWave BenchVue Software Download.

For PathWave BenchVue Standalone App (BV0001B, BV0002B, BV0003B, BV0004B, BV0028B, BV0026B) :

For Node-locked & Transportable license:

• License Required dialog will pop up after launching the application, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("Purchased") and click "Install" to begin the process to redeem your license (internet connection required). You will be directed to the Keysight Software Manager (KSM) web site, which will open in your default web browser. You will need to provide the Order Number and Certificate Number from the entitlement certificate. In addition, you will need to provide your computer's Host ID.
• Your software license has now been redeemed. You will receive an e-mail from Keysight with a software license file (*.lic) attached. Save the license file to your local computer and make sure to note the location.
• From the License Required dialog, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("Purchased") and click "Install" to begin the process to install the license file on your computer. You will be directed to the Keysight License Manager (KLM) software application. From KLM, select the "Install a License File" option from the "wrench" menu and navigate to the location on your computer where you saved the license file that you received via e-mail.
• Note: If you are a first-time user of the License Manager application, you may be required to create a myKeysight account. Depending on the specific type of license being activated, PathWave will automatically determine which version of the License Manager application to launch.
• Your license is now activated.

For USB Portable License:

• License Required dialog will pop up after launching the application, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("Purchased") and click "Install" to begin the process to install the license file on your computer. You will be directed to the Keysight Software Manager (KSM) web site, which will open in your default web browser. You will need to provide the Order Number and Certificate Number from the entitlement certificate.
• In addition, you will need to provide the Host ID for your USB key – the Host ID (also the serial number) is printed directly on the USB key itself and has the form "10-0RESF13B".
• Note: If you are a first-time user of the License Manager application, you may be required to create a myKeysight account. Depending on the specific type of license being activated, PathWave will automatically determine which version of the License Manager application to launch.
• Your software license has now been redeemed. You will receive an e-mail from Keysight with a software license file (*.lic) attached. Save the license file to your local computer and make sure to note the location.
• Note: You will need repeat the steps above to install the software license file on each computer that will share the USB key. o From PLM, select the "Add a License File" option and navigate to the location on your computer where you saved the license file that you received via e-mail. License files have a .lic file extension (for example, "PCSERNO_CC12345678_87654321.lic").
• Click "Add Now".
• Your license is now activated.
• Insert the USB (dongle) key into a USB port on your computer. Note that it may take some time before your computer detects the USB key.

For Floating License:

• License Required dialog will pop up after launching the application, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("Purchased") and click "Install" to begin the process to install the license file on your server computer (internet connection required). You will be directed to the Keysight Software Manager (KSM) web site, which will open in your default web browser. You will need to provide the Order Number and Certificate Number from the entitlement certificate. In addition, you will need to provide the MAC Address (not the Host ID) for the server computer.
• Note: If you are a first-time user of the License Manager application, you may be required to create a myKeysight account. Depending on the specific type of license being activated, PathWave will automatically determine which version of the License Manager application to launch.
• Your software license has now been redeemed. You will receive an e-mail from Keysight with a software license file (*.lic) attached. Save the license file to your local computer and make sure to note the location.
• From the License Required dialog, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("Purchased") and click "Install" to begin the process to install the license file on your server computer. You will be directed to the PathWave License Manager (PLM) software application – if not already installed on your computer, go to www.keysight.com/find/PLM to download the app.
• From PLM, select the "Add a License File" option and navigate to the location on your computer where you saved the license file that you received via e-mail. License files have a .lic file extension (for example, "PCSERNO_CC12345678_87654321.lic").
• Click "Add Now".
• Your license is now activated.
• Your floating license is now activated and the license server process is running on the server computer.

For PathWave BenchVue platform based App:

For Node-locked & Transportable license:

• Go to the “gear” icon in the menu and click on “ Activate License”
• Select “Activate Purchased License” " tab and click "Redeem" to begin the process to redeem your license (internet connection required). You will be directed to the Keysight Software Manager (KSM) web site, which will open in your default web browser. You will need to provide the Order Number and Certificate Number from the entitlement certificate. In addition, you will need to provide your computer's Host ID, which is provided for you at the bottom of the licensing dialog.
• Note: If you are a first-time user of KSM, you will be required to complete a one-time registration on the web site.
• Your software license has now been redeemed. You will receive an e-mail from Keysight with a software license file (*.lic) attached. Save the license file to your local computer and make sure to note the location.
• From the Activate Purchased License tab, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("Node-Locked" or "Transportable") and click "Install" to begin the process to install the license file on your computer. You will be directed to the Keysight License Manager (KLM) software application, which was installed as part of the BenchVue installation. From KLM, select the "Install a License From a File" option from the "wrench" menu and navigate to the location on your computer where you saved the license file that you received via e-mail.
• Your license is now activated.

For USB Portable License:

• Go to the “gear” icon in the menu and click on “ Activate License”
• Select “Activate Purchased License” " tab and click "Redeem" to begin the process to redeem your license (internet connection required). You will be directed to the Keysight Software Manager (KSM) web site, which will open in your default web browser. You will need to provide the Order Number and Certificate Number from the entitlement certificate. In addition, you will need to provide your computer's Host ID, which is provided for you at the bottom of the licensing dialog.
• In addition, you will need to provide the Host ID for your USB key – the Host ID (also the serial number) is printed directly on the USB key itself and has the form "10-0RESF13B"
• Note: If you are a first-time user of KSM, you will be required to complete a one-time registration on the web site.
• Your software license has now been redeemed. You will receive an e-mail from Keysight with a software license file (*.lic) attached. Save the license file to your local computer and make sure to note the location.

• From the Activate Purchased License tab, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("USB Portable") and click "Install" to begin the process to install the license file on your computer. You will be directed to the Keysight License Manager 6 (KLM 6) software application, which was installed as part of the BenchVue installation. From KLM, select the "Add/remove a license..." option and navigate to the location on your computer where you saved the license file that you received via e-mail.
• Your license is now activated.

• Your software license has now been redeemed. You will receive an e-mail from Keysight with a software license file (*.lic) attached. Save the license file to your local computer and make sure to note the location.
• From the Activate Purchased License tab, select the appropriate license type from the drop-down list ("Floating") and click "Install" to begin the process to install the license file on your computer. You will be directed to the Keysight License Manager 6 (KLM 6) software application, which was installed as part of the BenchVue installation. From KLM 6, select the "Add/remove a license on your local machine" option. o From the opening screen of KLM 6, select "Add a license to this floating license server...".
• Navigate to the location on your computer where you saved the license file that you received via e-mail. Be sure to select the checkbox next to "Automatically start license server after every reboot" and then select "Next".
• Your floating license is now activated and the license server process is running on the server computer.
